Kirsten Hunter was raised in Hong Kong and Singapore and began learning Mandarin at the age of eight. She read Chinese Studies at Oxford before taking her fluency, her feel for the region and her early network into sales roles at Halcyon Gallery and Fabergé.
At Fabergé she ran the Harrods sales team and set up and managed the high-end retail operation in Hong Kong's Lane Crawford, living for stretches in Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou. It was during those years that she developed the conviction that would later become Hunter Inc: that Western luxury houses reach Chinese clients best when they are represented by people who understand both worlds fluently, and quietly.
She founded Hunter Inc in 2015 as the firm she would herself have wanted to hire — bilingual, bicultural, discreet, and close to the client. Today she is widely recognised as a China hand: she sits with the British Council and Investec Women Entrepreneurs, and is a trusted advisor on China strategy to a small number of luxury houses, hospitality groups and private clients she is careful never to name.
